flash git

I don’t want to carry a laptop with me everywhere I go, and as a result I’ve been thinking about the best way of updating the site by using internet cafes and I think I have come up with a decent idea. Typing what I have written is pretty straightfoward, but I think inserting the photos and links into the writing (as well as uploading the photos in the first place) is going to be the time consuming thing, especially on dial-up connections.

Here’s my idea….

I walk into an internet cafe, insert a floppy disk into the floppy drive, load a program directly from the disk, which lets me upload photos to my site by dragging and dropping, without having to install anything on the internet cafe computer. I then cut and paste the HTML code for inserting pictures to where I want it in the text, and all I have to do is alter the end bit of the picture name.

Then, Bob’s your uncle, I’m in and out of that internet cafe faster than you can say “I’m in and out of that internet cafe faster than you can say ‘Bob’s your uncle’”.

Nice idea but waaaay too easy.

Now I say to you - as I sit here in my rose tinted glasses - this is possible. It just needs a bit more technology than a floppy disk.

What it needs is an INOVIX USB key / MP3 iMP-10 - 512MB. A what?

It is a USB Flash Pen which is basically a floppy disk that plugs into a USB port, but it holds about 500 times more stuff than a floppy can. It also doubles up as an MP3 player so I can store some smooth grooves on it to listen to when I’m creating the masterpiece that will be this site. Or to listen to whilst on the 10+ hour bus journeys.

I can load the program to upload files directly onto it, which I have downloaded but I wont put a link to it on here as I’m not sure about copyright or that malarkey.

Anyway it all seems possible to me as I sit here, if it actually works when I’m in Mexico on the slowest connection in the world remains to be seen, but I live in hope. At the very least I’ll have music and a place to store my photos.
