Guadalajara: Festival Time

This entry is part 15 of 43 in the series Mexico

Day 26 – Saturday 16th October 2005

After waking up with my legs covered in mosquito bites I thought that spending nearly a week up and down the coast was enough for this stint, and I decided to head inland to Guadalajara. I caught the bus from Puerto Vallarta. I was the only passenger on the bus, and as we approached the city, the bus finally conked out after a few breakdowns along the way. The driver casually parked the 50 seater bus on the side of the road, locked her up and him and I got a taxi to the main bus station. Very random, but quicker than staying on the bus.

The guidebook had said that this was a dirty and noisy city, but had some nice architecture and a good atmosphoere, so I decided to have a walk around and judge for myself. First impressions were that it was loud and crowded, but also that it was a good city with plenty to do.

I needed to sort a few things out and make a purchase or two, and as I was staying in the commercial center I decided to make use of the location. Stupidly I had brought the wrong type of adaptor my battery charger, so I had to buy a new charger entirely, which set me back about US$30.

Aside from that I really just wandered the streets trying to get a feel for the layout of the place, ready for a day of sightseeing the next day. As darkness approached I found myself at another street concert, similar to the one in Chihuahua the previous week. I stayed and watched until the end, when I decided I had done enough walking for the day and went back to my room for some shut eye.
