Creel: Moving to Chihuahua

Day 19 - Saturday 8th October 2005

After another quality breakfast, Rob & I said goodbye to the Casa Margarita and the three cute German girls who had stayed the previous night and were taking the same trip we had taken the day before. Talk about bad timing. We bought tickets for the bus to Chihuahua & departed around half ten. The bus journey was pretty uneventful aside from the bands that kept boarding and playing a song then getting off at the next stop.

Creel: Hot Springs

Day 18 - Friday 7th October 2005

Note: Breakfast was equally as good as dinner the previous night. As were the seconds I went back for!

Creel is a town which is popular on the Gringo Trail as is a good place from which to make day trips and explore the surrounding area. Four of us, Rob, Andrew, Mike and myself had decided that a bit of exercise was in order, and decided to take a trip to the local hot springs. To reach the springs we would have to hike about 45 minutes there, then 45 minutes back.

Los Mochis: Copper Canyon Railway

Day 17 - Thursday 6th October 2005

If Rob and I were to catch the train bound for Chihuahua we had to be at the station to buy our tickets about 30 mins before it departed, which was 7am. This meant getting out of bed at half five and catching a bus which would take us across the city of Los Mochis.

We got to the station and bought tickets to Creel for $360 pesos. The train we were taking was the “Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacifico”, or the Copper Canyion Railway.

La Paz: Leaving Baja

Day 16 - Wednesday 5th October 2005

This was a day for travelling from Baja California into mainland Mexico. I went across from La Paz to Topolobampo, from where I would be able to catch a train to visit Copper Canyon.

The ferry sailed at 3pm but myself and Rob went to the ferry terminal a couple of hours before as we were advised the day before.

La Paz: Bumming Around

Day 15 - Tuesday 4th October 2005

After a sound sleep I got up eager to see a few of the sights around La Paz. First port of call thought, was breakfast. Shrimp tacos, delicious. At breakfast I got chatting to an Aussie guy, Rob, who was pretty much planning to do the same journey as me for the next few days, so we went up to the ferry office to book a ticket across to Topolobampo, which is the docking point of the ferry across to the mainland. After a bit of searching we found the office, but they said that if we just rocked up to the ferry terminal the next day when we were planning to sail, we would be able to get the tickets for $50 pesos less.

La Paz: Finding The Peace

Day 14 - 3rd October 2005

I arrived in La Paz surprisingly fresh at around 9am after my 2nd 12 hour bus ride in 48 hours. I walked out of the bus station, the ocean stared at me from across the road, the sun shone down and I knew I´d like this town.

La Paz literally means `The Peace´, and just being in The Peace had improved my state of mind dramatically from the last few days and I was looking forward to sorting my Tourist Card out, having a wander around the town and doing the touristy bit.

Guerrero Negro: Ghost Town

Day 13 - 2nd October 2005

When I woke up I thought I´d try and sort out my Tourist Card, so I went to the Tourist Info desk, but it was shut. Luckily a guy pulled up next to it and asked what I needed, I told him, he took me to the immigration office. It was shut. Oh well, I´d have to wait until tomorrow. He did put my mind at rest though, he said it wouldn´t be problem getting it, either here or in La Paz.
