Rio Dulce: Leaving Guatemala

Day 101 – Thursday 29th December 2005
After a night of disturbed sleep due to the poor location of the dormitory, it was a slow start to the day and everyone was tired. The one redeeming feature of the hostel was the excellent hot shower which was definately one of the better showers in Guatemala.

Rio Dulce: More Bus Rides

Day 100 – Wednesday 28th December 2005
When travelling by bus in Guatemala there is a definate trade off between price and comfort. On the one hand there are the shuttles which for Q100 will take you from Lake Atitlan to Guatemala City in about 2 1/2 hours. On these shuttles you have your own seat, [...]

San Pedro: Chillin'

Day 99 – Tuesday 27th December 2005
Another lazy day, however I wasn’t hungover! I just didn’t want to do much. I woke up early again and went into the sun to write my diary and read, and aside from going to get breakfast that is where I stayed for most of the morning and early [...]

San Pedro: Boxing Day

Day 98 – Monday 26th December 2005
A lazy day if ever there was one. I rose late, sunbathed, ate a turkey sandwich, dozed and felt rough. Not one of the better days of the trip!

San Pedro: Christmas Celebrations

Day 97 – Sunday 25th December 2005
Surprisingly, I woke up fresh and early after a pretty decent drinking session the night before. The sun was shining and I decided to get some early morning Christmas rays on my back. I also wanted to make sure I phoned home as early as possible so I got [...]

San Pedro: Christmas Eve!

Day 96 – Saturday 24th December 2005
Christmas Eve! A pretty quiet day all in all, the kayaking had been quite enough exercise for the festive period, so after getting up early, I read, sunbathed, wrote in my diary and updated the blog.

San Pedro: Kamikazee Kayaking

Day 95 – Friday 23rd December 2005
I woke up and decided to have a shave for the first time since Los Angeles on day number 8 of the trip…..

Antigua: Moving to the Lake for Christmas

Day 94 – Thursday 22nd December 2005
I had arranged to meet up with the lad who had been staying at my hotel when I was doing the Spanish lessons as he was due to fly home that afternoon. I was up for the breakfast meet up in plently of time as I had an alarm [...]

Antigua: Its Almost Christmas

Day 93 – Wednesday 21st December 2005
With only 4 days to go until Xmas I had yet to see the usual hype and inescapable barrage of everything Christmasy that tends to surround the festive period in the UK. In fact I would have said that for a country that is 90% Christian, [...]

Antigua: What to do before Christmas

Day 92 – Tuesday 20th December 2005
My final 4 hours of classes came and went, I said goodbye to my teacher and some of the students, packed my things and sat down over lunch, trying to decide what to do in the five days before Christmas. I wanted to visit Semuc Champey, a series of [...]
